How to wear a bold style trend?

February 11, 2019

An undeniable style trend that isn't going anywhere for 2019 is leopard print, but for some it may feel that a leopard print fur coat or slip dress for example may seem a bit excessive considering how overwhelming the print may be. I very often find myself a bit scared to try new trends that I love especially when they are a bit bolder than your normal look, I will find myself loving a trend only to end up questioning what it will look like on a normal person when it is not strutting down the runway of Milan Fashion week?

So how do we tackle a bold trend? I always like to start small by toning it down, which brings me to the following blog collaboration! An affordable ode to the leopard print trend without going overboard and another South African fashion brand to look out for, I am in love with Happy Island Handmade's collection of leopard print earrings!

Happy Island is a Cape Town-based accessories company specializing in quirky statement earrings. Their handmade pieces are all about embracing the fun side of life through bold colours and contemporary design. Happy Island celebrates irregular shapes and finds the beauty in imperfections that are a natural part of the hand-crafted process.

"It’s important to us that our items retain an authentic look, setting us apart from machined fast fashion. All items are sculpted from clay with patience and love out of our cosy home studio in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town. We enjoy experimenting with mixed media and pushing boundaries with bold colours and wild patterns. Our pieces mostly comprise of hand sculpted polymer clay components, combined with brass, tassels, fabric and many other lightweight materials. Our earrings are made in small batches which means everytime you purchase a pair of Happy island earrings, you are decorating your lobes with a limited edition piece of ear art!" Stacey Van Rensburg, owner of Happy Island.

Happy Island earrings are available for purchase locally through www.happyisland.co.za Spend R500 or more and get free shipping anywhere in South Africa.

International sales are done via our Etsy store - Happy Island
