There is something about 35mm film that digital simply cannot replicate. The softness. The grain. The imperfect perfection of a fleeting moment captured honestly and artistically.
Recently, I had the opportunity to photograph a beautiful wedding at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden using a combination of digital and 35mm film photography, and it reminded me exactly why so many couples are falling in love with film again.

The Beauty of Film Lies in the Feeling
Film photography has a way of preserving emotion in a deeply nostalgic and cinematic way. The tones feel softer, skin looks luminous, and every image carries a sense of timelessness that feels almost like a memory frozen in time.
At Kirstenbosch, surrounded by the dramatic mountain views, wild greenery, and soft natural light, film captured the atmosphere in the most beautiful way. The movement of a veil in the wind, guests laughing during cocktail hour, quiet in-between moments between the couple, all of it felt incredibly honest and romantic on film.
Unlike digital photography, film slows everything down slightly. It encourages intentionality. Every frame matters, and that often results in images that feel more emotional and artful.
Why Couples Are Adding 35mm Film to Their Wedding Packages
Many of my couples are drawn to film because they want their wedding photographs to feel:
timeless rather than trendy,
editorial yet emotional,
elegant but still deeply personal.
35mm film pairs beautifully with luxury weddings, garden weddings, destination celebrations, and intimate gatherings because it adds texture and depth that feels organic and refined.
Film also photographs natural light beautifully, especially in outdoor venues like Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden where the surroundings already feel soft, romantic, and cinematic.

The Perfect Blend: Digital + Film
One of my favourite ways to photograph weddings is by combining digital photography with 35mm film.
Digital allows me to capture moments quickly and consistently throughout the day, while film adds an artistic layer filled with warmth, nostalgia, and texture. Together, they create a gallery that feels both polished and emotionally rich.
The result is a wedding gallery that feels elevated, timeless, and full of atmosphere.

A Wedding at Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden on 35mm Film
There could hardly be a more beautiful setting for film photography than Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden.
The soft greenery, mountain backdrop, and ever-changing natural light create the perfect environment for romantic, documentary-style imagery. Film thrives in spaces like these because it captures colour and light in such a natural and painterly way.
Every frame from this wedding feels nostalgic in the best possible sense, like moments pulled from an old European love story.

Should You Add Film Photography to Your Wedding?
If you are drawn to imagery that feels emotional, artistic, nostalgic, and timeless, then 35mm film may be the perfect addition to your wedding photography package.
Film is not about perfection. It is about feeling.
And years from now, those imperfectly beautiful moments often become the images that mean the most.

This photography post highlights how personal branding grows through confidence in front of the camera, especially when visual storytelling feels authentic instead of forced. It reminded me of a time I had to prepare presentations and exams together, and I kept losing confidence under pressure. I struggled to manage everything that time I had pay someone to take my online wgu exam help to reduce one academic load so I could focus better on my presentation skills. Sometimes clarity builds confidence. Nice post, it make me smile.
